Between 11:00 and 14:00 the sun is overhead, the sand reflects hard with almost no shadow, and the pink washes out to pale beige.
The flight option puts you on the sand by 9:30 at the latest — usually earlier — and off the beach around 11:00. That entire window falls inside the hours when the pink is visible and the beach is least crowded.

Nassau, or the beach
Most Bahamas itineraries default to sleeping in Nassau. Nassau is lively, and the hotels, restaurants and shops are concentrated there — but the town centre takes about twenty minutes to walk.
Pink Sands Beach offers a different rhythm: a quiet stretch of coast, time that does not need to be scheduled, a walk on the sand in the morning and another in the evening.
The reason to stay on the beach is the difference in where you are, not a few extra hours on the island.
An overnight buys two windows, not a longer stay
Across a single day, Pink Sands Beach has three distinct kinds of light:
- First light through sunrise — the deep blue before the day fully breaks, and the low, raking light as the sun clears the horizon.
- After sunrise until roughly 10:40 — the clearest pink of the day, and the window a day trip covers.
- The blue hour around nightfall — after the sun drops and before the sky goes fully dark, the sea and the sand turn into the same deep blue.
The first and the third sit outside the structure of a day trip. The flight option reaches the sand at around 09:30 at the earliest, and leaves Harbour Island by 14:30 at the latest. First light comes before you arrive; the blue hour comes after you leave.

What Coral Sands Hotel is actually like
Coral Sands Hotel sits on Chapel Street in Dunmore Town, Harbour Island. The property's own website currently uses the name Coral Sands Inn & Cottages.
Location
The hotel opens directly onto Pink Sands Beach, with its own beach access and its own loungers and umbrellas on the sand. The walk from Government Dock to the beach is about 800 to 900 metres, roughly ten minutes, and this hotel is where that walk ends.
The beach itself is not private. What the hotel owns is its access and its own furniture: the umbrellas and beach chairs available to day visitors on the sand are third-party private rentals, and using one is taken as agreement to pay. Hotel guests use the hotel's own area.
History
The hotel opened in 1968, founded by Brett King — a former Hollywood actor and fighter pilot — and his wife Sharon.
On 25 July 2024, AJ Capital Partners announced the acquisition and restoration of the property, with a stated plan to reopen that December. The restoration has been phased and was still ongoing through 2025.
Rooms
The website currently groups rooms into four categories: The Inn (king rooms and suites with courtyard balconies or ocean views), Briland House (ocean-view suites with private terraces), Cottages (standalone cottages between the garden and the shoreline), and King's Beach Homes (private beachfront houses with full kitchens, aimed at larger parties).
Dining
Three venues are currently listed: The Pink Mermaid (an Italian bistro), Coral Sands Beach Bar, and The Beach Shack.
Three stays, including what did not work
The founder has stayed three times: twice before the pandemic, once in 2025. The 2025 stay was after the restoration.
What worked: the pink-toned island resort style. The colours and materials in the rooms belong to this island rather than to a resort template that could sit anywhere.
What did not: service response is slow. This is a matter of pace rather than attitude — the wait between asking for something and getting it is generally longer than at a city hotel in the same bracket. Service across the Bahamas runs at a slower tempo generally, and it is worth arriving with that expectation.
How an overnight itinerary is arranged
The travel leg is still the flight: Nassau to North Eleuthera Airport (ELH), then a road transfer to the dock, a short ferry crossing, and a walk into Dunmore Town. That part is identical to the day trip.
What changes is which day Glass Window Bridge and Queen's Bath fall on. Both sit along the North Eleuthera road route and are only passed on the flight option. On an overnight itinerary the two are placed on the outbound or the return leg depending on the actual flight times that day — this is not a fixed running order.
The extra afternoon and evening go to the beach.
Queen's Bath remains a conditional sight: the tidal pools refill from wave overwash, and after several consecutive clear days they can dry out completely, so visibility is never promised.
The air leg does not operate daily and seats are limited. Schedules and the shape of both days are confirmed in writing before travel.
Who should stay over, and who should not
Suited to an overnight: travellers who want a quiet holiday pace, whose purpose is simply to be on the beach — a walk in the morning, another in the evening, nothing scheduled in between. First light and the blue hour justify the extra day, and with more time, several nights work better still.
Less suited: travellers who want a lively, tightly packed trip. A day trip already delivers the best hours on Pink Sands Beach, and the remaining time is spent more efficiently on Glass Window Bridge, Dunmore Town and the return to Nassau the same day.

Pink Sands Resort sits next door, also on this stretch of beach, and is priced materially higher. It was founded in the late 1940s, ran for a long period on an invitation-only basis, and was acquired and reworked in the 1990s by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell.
