MELA TRAVEL LTD is a Destination Management Company established in Nassau, The Bahamas in 2015, operating with resident staff, an owned Exuma vessel fleet, licensed local captains and long-term aviation partnerships across Nassau, Exuma, North Eleuthera and Harbour Island.

MELA TRAVEL LTD was established in Nassau, The Bahamas in 2015 and has operated continuously in the Bahamian tourism industry since. What began as a response to a gap in the market — travellers arriving in The Bahamas with no genuinely local operator to hand them to — has become a full destination management operation.
At the end of 2018, a US-registered entity was established in New York to support international partnership agreements, cross-border corporate transactions and payment processing. This is a financial and contracting structure only. The operating company, the team, the vehicles and the vessels are all in The Bahamas.

Mica Li holds a background in clinical general medicine and a master's degree in tourism management — an unusual pairing that turns out to matter operationally. Clinical training instils protocol, contingency planning and a low tolerance for improvisation where safety is involved.
She founded MELA TRAVEL after recognising two persistent problems in the regional market: most sellers were distant middlemen with no real presence in Nassau, and high-end international and Chinese-speaking travellers were routinely handed rigid group itineraries and unpredictable service quality.
As an Advanced Open Water and technical cave diver, she brings firsthand knowledge of ocean safety to how the marine operation is run — which is why captains, not schedules, have final authority over routing.

What "local operation" actually means
Nassau — capital hub. Three full-time resident Chinese-speaking guides and two English-speaking guides, stationed year-round. Three full-time professional drivers with licensed commercial vehicles, plus a vetted on-demand partner network for peak periods such as Chinese New Year and Spring Break.
Exuma — marine operations. An owned fleet of two high-speed powerboats carrying up to 12 passengers each and six compact speedboats carrying up to 8 each, chosen for low draft so they can reach shallow sandbars. Three full-time licensed local captains with deep Exuma Cays navigation experience.
North Eleuthera & Harbour Island. A resident dispatch coordinator managing airport transfers and ferry connections, two local drivers, and two resident on-island coordinators for real-time contingencies. Long-term golf cart and restaurant partnerships secure availability in high season.
All land vehicles and marine vessels hold valid Bahamas commercial operating licences and carry comprehensive commercial passenger liability insurance. Private flights are arranged through long-term trusted local aviation partners — MELA Travel does not own aircraft.
